Rachel Watkins named Youth Snowmobiler of the Year by ACSA
At the 50th International Snowmobile Congress, Rachel Watkins from Beresford, South Dakota was named the ACSA Young Snowmobiler of the Year. Rachel is the daughter of Travis & Lisa Watkins.
Starting at a very young age, Rachel started snowmobiling with her family. Watkins is currently President of the State youth program, Youth Empowerment Through Involvement in Snowmobiling (YETIS). In addition to the Youth Program, she has participated in club events, state conventions and the International Snowmobile Congress. She has also assisted in Governors’ Rides and the 20th Anniversary Open House at the Polaris Distribution Center.
In addition to snowmobile activities, Rachel finds time for high school sports, church youth group and teaching Sunday Day School. Rachel also holds some part time jobs in her spare time!
Snowmobiling is family in Rachel’s mind. “I ride snowmobiles because that’s where I have made some of my best memories with my family and friends.” Rachel also feels snowmobiling has taught her a lot about responsibility.
Rachel is not only passionate about snowmobiling now, but she looks to the future of sport as well. She realizes access is an issue, as well as getting young snowmobilers involved. Rachel says, “I choose to work toward the path of continued access and the opportunity for everyone to enjoy snowmobiling like I do”.
“Having youth involvement like Rachel is the future of snowmobiling” stated SDSA President Jon Laframbois. “With youth involvement and encouragement from young snowmobilers like Rachel, our future is bright!”
